All About 'Today'

A year ago, when I started blogging I decided to write at least once a month. That would’ve given me 12 posts a year, 24 in two. I thought it would be the right way to go. Now I’m writing after a break of four months. Today, I believe there is no point in writing if its not coming from the inside.

Do you also make predictions about life based on your current beliefs? Or the circumstances you’re presently in? If the answer is yes, then you are like the person I used to be.

Throughout my life I’ve projected how things will turn out to be in the future. I’m no less than an amateur prophet with a substandard success ratio. Starting from who’s going to win the world cup to how are situations in life going to turn out, I’ve made ample amount of predictions. While only some of them turned out to be true, most of them were fiascos.

I used to have a complete timeline in my head. By X date things would be here. By Y month I would be there and what not. In the process, the actions I took in the present were also refashioned as they were based on my conjectures. So if the outcomes weren’t the same as I assumed, most of my efforts would go in vain. The reason I used the word ‘most’ instead of ‘all’ is because I strongly believe all our efforts never go in vain.

One day I sat and analysed this. I found out that most of my predictions were subjected to some variable constraints which while prognosticating, I assumed to be constants. The three prominent ones were -

'After'life

Here by afterlife I don’t mean – life after death. I mean life after you reach a checkpoint in life. The “what we assume it would be” life and not what it turns out to be. For example – You got selected in the state cricket team. You feel this is your big opportunity. You just have to continue playing for a few years and you can make a fortune out of it. Right?  Unfortunately you have horrible team mates and support staff that “benches” you in crucial games. you might opt to leave this mess.

People

This one is my favorite. You think you know someone. Turns out, you don’t! The friend who hated partying, now carouses every weekend. People change with time and that is admissible. Do you know the people you rely upon?

      Myself

Are you the same person you were five years ago? Are your values, believes and circumstances still what they used to be? Is your approach towards life still the same?
If  you currently are not ‘who you used to be’, how’ll you be ‘who you are’ in the future?

To sum up,

It’s better not to contemplate about the future. Time will reveal what it beholds. You can’t predict what will happen with you. Who knows if the future has what you expect. You can just give your best today and not worry about the future. Seize the moment, do what you love and enjoy! because –

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.”

  3. This is really appreciable! You're correct. We must not "waste" our time in things like predicting the future. Because when something doesn't happen in our favour or as we expected, it sometimes break us with time. Which is why predicting, expecting and overthinking must be stopped! And try to live the present moment.
