Happy New Year

Image
With New Year Eve  celebrations  in  the offing - gatherings and festivities are about to begin. The whole world welcomes the New Year with immense pomp, zest and fervor. As always, it’s a great time for us to leave behind what’s saddening, cherish all the fond memories and wait in the wings for what’s yet to come.   This time, it’s not just the end of a year but in fact the end of a decade. When I look back in retrospect, I picture ‘14 year old me’ playing cricket on the terrace of our apartment, waiting for my chance to bat so that I could play the shots I had practiced the day before. Certainly, a lot has changed since then. I have been quite inactive on my blog this year. Merely two posts this year don’t justify my exploits, bummers or disappointments. I wish I had written more. Today I read a blog post I wrote on December 28 last year. It made me realize that it doesn’t take a decade to turn our lives upside down. A year is enough to turn it ...

Silly Notions

Yesterday was a usual day at work. I boarded the bus back home at my regular timing and reached my stop quite happily. Sometimes when you are being squashed between people and traffic adds to your misery, you tend to get sad. Well, it didn’t happen yesterday. There’s a small walk from the stop to my place (some call it a long walk, I guess it depends!). While walking back, I had my earphones plugged-in with music playing at 70% volume. The “known fiend” had crossed my path! Sadly, there’s no book which compares the efficacy of the evil powers of cats and kittens. I am assuming they are equally powerful. I am not someone who’d wait for someone else to pass such a scenario. I kept walking. I must admit, the cat thing was still in my head. Computational scientists estimate human storage capacity...

Non-Striker's End

We all witnessed a spectacle this year. Arguably, the best one day international in history of cricket. Though the competitors were Englishmen and Kiwis, in the nick of time, it was nerve wrecking for the entire world. When I call the game to mind, I remember Ben stokes and Mark Wood at the crease, Ben taking stance and two runs to be scored of the last delivery.  Match Day :  Jul 14, 2019 23:30 IST Pic coutesy : Sports News XYZ Stress level up to  200% Trent Boult grips the ball and starts running with  serious pace. Two runs needed of the last ball. Boult delivers a full-toss (anti-climax :p) “That's knocked towards long-on. 1 run – completed. Neesham collects and throws the ball, Wood running towards the danger end, Boult whips off the bails. Out!” Hearts stopped! The game too. Not for long though. A thrilling super over was on its way! The game did go right down the wire and as we all know, England prevailed in t...
